Our Story

Once upon a tie-dye... Alice Hines has always made the world more colorful — literally. Whether she's sculpting clay, painting, crafting food into edible art, or dunking fabric into a rainbow of dye, Alice brings a creative spark to everything she touches. Back in 1994, she crossed paths with John in an online chat room (very cutting-edge for '94), and the rest is history. John made the trek to meet her in person in 1995, they fell in love, got married, and settled in Arkansas — where John traded his Abstract Artist hat for a pair of rubber gloves and learned the ancient art of tie-dye from Alice herself.

Weefcraft got its start the way the best things do: a mom who wanted to be home with her kids and a whole lot of creative energy. It kicked off with handcrafted clay bead sales in local boutiques, but Alice's tie-dye kept stealing the spotlight. Friends kept asking, then strangers kept asking, and eventually the internet came calling. Weefcraft went online in 1995 and never looked back — beads out, brilliant fabric art in. Our mission has always been simple: brighten the world with color.

We dye everything — t-shirts, bedding, wall hangings, you name it — in 100% cotton, rayon, or silk using fiber-reactive dyes that absolutely refuse to fade. Seriously, the shirt will wear out long before the colors do. We work with the big names (Hanes, Fruit of the Loom, Anvil, Gildan) and pretty much anyone else — the scope is unlimited. Every piece is one-of-a-kind, which means no two are ever exactly alike. Younger folks especially love the boldness, but honestly our fans span every age and walk of life. Our dyed goods have hung in restaurants, music stores, and all kinds of businesses coast to coast — and they've been spotted on real humans in Moscow, Berlin, London, Japan, and China.

Plot twist: John eventually hung up his rubber gloves to go teach college students about Information Technology and Cybersecurity — turns out he had another calling. But the family tradition carried on! Rose, Alice and John's daughter, picked up the dye squirt bottles in 2023 and hasn't put them down since. Now it's Alice & Rose keeping the Weefcraft flame (and the colors) burning bright.

These days you can catch Alice and Rose every Saturday morning at the Lakeland Downtown Farmer's Curb Market — come say hi, try something on, and leave a little more colorful than you arrived.

Oh, and the name? "Weef" was Alice's nickname, and "Craft" was, well, her craft. Simple as that — the Craft of Weef. Weefcraft has been a local fixture since 1992 and online since 1995, all founded by the one and only Alice Hines.
